in some sense, a (print) newspaper is already a collage : one damned (unrelated) thing after (next to, above, below) another.
ReplyDeleteand yet those juxtapositions can't help but suggest relatedness.
one might cut through a page (neatly!), so that whatever appears two pages later, emerges... and so on, layer after layer revealed.
or shuffle pages — from news or sports or culture or business sections — to reveal further relationships.

it may be that some of the juxtapositions, of different kinds of stories (in newspapers) have the effect of "canceling each other out." terrible news all over, but can't be that bad if we can follow the exploits of "personalities" or buy nice things that are advertised.
a form of redaction, that is invisible.
